The DHL Western Province will host the Xerox Golden Lions from Johannesburg in Cape Town next Saturday in the final of the Absa Currie Cup. This is after both sides won their tricky semi final encounters last Saturday.
Western Province are now all but clear favourites to walk away with the crown as they have been in consistent form all season.
They were quick off their feet against the Bulls who have been struggling to maintain their form ever since failing to make an impact in this year’s Super Rugby competition. The Bulls made a lot of mistakes at crucial times and missed three penalties which proved costly in the end.
The home final will mark back to back home finals for the Cape side and their third successive final appearance in the competition. The Sharks defeated Western Province last year in a dramatic final.
The Lions, meanwhile, secured their first Absa Currie Cup final since 2011 and kept their unbeaten run at home this season intact as they produced an innovative attacking performance backed up by a solid forward display to knock out last season’s champions – the Sharks.
