Middle Distance runner Agnes Mansaray closes her 2016 High school Indoor season with a personal best un the 400 meters

Sierra Leone national standout and Penn Wood High school middle distance specialist Agnes Mansaray finished her indoor season campaign with a splendid time of 55.40 seconds in the individual race and a split time of 55.01 in the 4x400 meters relay.

Agnes is one of several US based athletes who will be flying the flag of Sierra Leone very high in international circles in years to come. She is an 800 meters force with a personal best time of 2:09.70.

Her focus now turns to the outdoor season where she hopes to lower her marks in both the 400 and 800 meters.

Maggie Barrie sets new PR and National Record for Sierra Leone in the 200 and 400 meters to end 2016 Indoors

Ohio State and Sierra Leone international sprinter ended her 2016 indoor season on a high note as she closed out the season with a new PB and a new national record for Sierra Leone in the 200 with a time of 23.83 seconds. Barrie who is a standout Student and athlete at the world renowned Ohio State University has been steadily improving on her times this year since transferring from Xavier University.

She also set a new time of 55.15 seconds to break the national record in the indoor 400 meters’ race as well which was once held by former Sierra Leone Standout Melrose Mansaray at 55.82 seconds.

Bandari FC of Kenya were bundled out after 1-1 draw with St. Elou Lupopo of DR Congo on Sunday in Nairobi, crushing to a 3-1 defeat on aggregate.
 
This was Bandari’s first ever shot at the continental level and the team says it has learnt a lot from both legs against Lupopo.

Morocco's Kawkab Marrakesh, V Club Mokanda from Congo and Stade Gabesien of Tunisia booked their passage to the first round of the CAF confederation Cup after penalty shootout wins at the weekend.

Marrakesh went through 5-4 on penalties after they fell 3-0 at USFA of Burkina Faso in a preliminary round second leg clash leaving the teams tied 3-3 on aggregate.

Mamelodi Sundowns scored in added time to secure progression to the first round of the CAF Champions League with a 2-1 aggregate win over Chicken Inn of Zimbabwe.
 
Sundowns picked up where they left off in the first leg and Khama Billiat came close to opening the scoring, forcing the Chicken Inn goalkeeper into a spectacular save with a fierce effort from range.

Sierra Leone trio, Gibrilla Julius Woobay, Ibrahim Obreh Kargbo and Prince Barrie all made their debut over the weekend in the Slovenian PrvaLiga, English National League and the Ghanaian Premier League respectively.
 
Woobay had a winning debut for his new side NK Olimpija as they registered a 2-0 home win over Koper in round 23 of the Slovenian PrvaLiga. The 31 years old attacking midfielder saw 66 minutes of action on his debut before he was replaced by Miroslav Radovic.   Woobay’s NK Olimpija are now points clear at the top of the league table.

Idrissa Kargbo puts up brilliant performance at the Houston Rodeo 10k

Sierra Leone Marathon record holder Idrissa Kargbo put up a brilliant performance over the weekend at the annual Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo 10K run which is organized to benefit area children by providing scholarships for them. Idrissa who is fresh coming off a rather average performance at his last Marathon outing proved that he has what it takes to hang with the elite athletes of the world.

Idrissa finished 5th out of 16000 plus registrants of the race with a time of 35 minutes and 02 seconds which is marked improvement from his last outing at the Houston Chevron Marathon.

Trying to bring women's football to parts of the world trying to develop the game in general can be a challenge. Doing it in a country that is over twice the size of Germany yet has only a 40th of the population and 150th the GDP makes it even more difficult. But the Head of Women's Football for the Namibia Football Association, Jackey Gertze, has been willing to tackle the mammoth task head-on, and she has recently been getting some help at the first Female Leadership Development Programme and at a women's football coaching course in Windhoek at the end of February.

Lausanne, 26 February 2016 – The cases of Russian racewalkers Vera Sokolova, Elmira Alembekova, Ivan Noskov, Mikhail Ryzhov and Denis Strelkov who all tested positive for EPO at the Saransk race walking center on 2 June 2015 will be handled by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne, Switzerland. In doing so, CAS will act as a sole instance decision making authority, substituting for the All Russia Athletic Federation (ARAF) whose operations have been suspended by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF).
