4,905,169 tickets had been requested by fans from all over the world before the random selection draw sales period concluded at 12:00 Moscow time today. Since 5 December 2017, supporters have had a great opportunity to apply for tickets exclusively at FIFA.com/tickets, and anticipation for the 2018 FIFA World Cup™ in Russia this summer has been increasing steadily. Most of the applications have come from Russia (2,503,957 tickets requested), with Germany (338,414), Argentina (186,005), Mexico (154,611), Brazil (140,848), Poland (128,736), Spain (110,649), Peru (100,256), Colombia (87,786), USA (87,052) and the Netherlands (71,096) making up the top ten countries outside the host nation. Overall, international demand accounts for 49 per cent.

A stoic but athletic centre-back, Lugano enjoyed a fruitful decade-long career for La Celeste, which ended in 2014.

​The Beach Volleyball Commission met in Lausanne on Wednesday.
Lausanne, Switzerland, January 31, 2018 - FIVB President Dr. Ary S. Graça F° met with the Beach Volleyball Commission today, focusing on the great achievements of the sport so far and plans for a bright future.

To open the Commission meeting, the FIVB President spoke about the success of the new star structure for the FIVB World Tour. Introduced in 2016, the ranking system makes it possible to deliver the best possible events for the athletes, fans and sponsors, as well as providing an increased number of opportunities for countries to host beach volleyball events.

Joachim Gossow, CEO of the International World Games Association, has signed a contract extension until 2021. The IWGA Board agreed to further cooperation with its CEO to set the way for The World Games in Birmingham, Alabama from 15 – 25 July 2021.

IWGA President José Perurena stated: “We are very pleased by the way that Joachim Gossow has taken our multi-sport event to the next level. We recognise the progress that we have achieved in the recent editions of The World Games, and we are aiming to follow this track into the future. That is why we have agreed to extend the contract with Joachim Gossow, who leads our staff and who has the full confidence of our member federations and of the upcoming host city.”

Kaizer Chiefs and Vodacom shook Alexandra Township when they hosted the last Shake Every Day summer campaign roadshow on Saturday, 27 January 2018 at the Alex Mall. The roadshow was a precursor of the massive game that would take place in the evening between Amakhosi and Mamelodi Sundowns at the FNB Stadium.

Amakhosi supporters descended on the Shakeville set-up at the Alex Mall in numbers from as early as 10:00 and left at 14:00 – just in time to get ready for the clash of two giants of South African football.

Andy Pycroft of the Emirates Elite Panel of ICC Match Referees has rated the Wanderers Stadium pitch as “poor” and, as such, according to the ICC Pitch and Outfield Monitoring Process, it has received three demerit points, the International Cricket Council (ICC) announced today.
 
The demerit points will remain active for a rolling five-year period and if during this five-year period the Wanderers Stadium reaches the threshold of five demerit points, then it will be suspended from staging any international cricket for 12 months.

​Key events in 2018 include the inaugural edition of the Volleyball Nations League and the FIVB Volleyball World Championships.

Lausanne, Switzerland, January 29, 2018 – In a major new agreement between the FIVB and Polsat, the Polish television channel has acquired the right to broadcast flagship events including the Volleyball Nations League and the Volleyball Challenger Cup. The agreement also includes rights to the 2020 and 2024 Olympic Qualification Tournaments, the 2022 FIVB Volleyball World Championships and the 2019 and 2023 editions of the FIVB Volleyball World Cup. It renews long-standing ties between the FIVB and Polsat.

FIFA today announced that Marco Fazzone has been appointed as the Director of the FIFA World Football Museum. Marco, who is currently the Managing Director of Design & Regional Art Fairs of the MCH Group Ltd. in Basel, will take up the post in February 2018.

"I am happy to underline that we are definitely on the right track. In the last year, we have worked hard on the cost model as well as streamlining the whole financial structure of the museum," said Zvonimir Boban, FIFA Deputy Secretary General (Football).
