Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has approached the National Basketball Association (NBA) in a tentative effort to add the club’s basketball team to the NBA’s Eastern Conference, according to Spanish news outlet El Confidencial.
Real Madrid Baloncesto, who play in both Liga ACB and the EuroLeague, are the most successful basketball team in Spanish and European history, with a record 10 EuroLeague titles and 34 Spanish League championships.
They have been linked with a move to the NBA since former president Ramon Calderon first raised the possibility in 2006. However, no progress has ever materialised on the matter, with a lack of practical solutions to the travel distances causing an impasse in the plan.
Perez has mentioned on multiple occasions that he remains in contact with NBA bosses regarding the possibility of an expansion, with his latest discussions said to revolve around the possibility of the creation of a European extension to the league.
Perez said: “The NBA wants to create a European confederation, but Real Madrid is the only club that wants to enter.

The Football Association (FA) has agreed to pay up to UK£3 million to end its image rights contract, according to a report in British newspapers.
FA executives have worked on terminating the deal with the 1966 Entertainment agency, with an agreement said to be close to finalisation – possibly during the upcoming international break in October.
The FA’s belief is that by taking the players’ image rights in-house, the organisation will be able to generate greater commercial revenue, while also saving money in the long-term.
It will also mean that sponsorship opportunities involving England players will become more streamlined, with the necessity to pass through a third party removed.

The latest two series in the third round of the ICC Women’s Championship delivered closely-fought games and propelled West Indies out of the bottom half of the table as the teams test their competitive edge with the ICC Women’s World Twenty20 2018 less than 50 days away.⦁ India, South Africa and the West Indies are within two points of each other while Sri Lanka won their first two points

⦁ West Indies captain Stafanie Taylor: “Having lost the first game, we had to go back to the drawing board because we know South Africa have evolved and they have been playing well over the last few years”

⦁ South Africa captain Dane van Niekerk: “We did not take the opportunity to go up the ladder. We need to find ways to win ODI series and a draw is not great but probably better than a loss”

⦁ Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu: “Between the two teams, we did not see much of a difference. We won the third game and lost the second game very narrowly”

⦁ India captain Mithali Raj: “We won the series but would have ideally liked a 3-0 score-line to garner maximum points since we had not lost to them in an ODI for five years”
