PORT LOUIS, Mauritius, December 9, 2019/ -- As part of its Mauritius2024 Olympic program, Rugby Union Mauritius has launched an Olympic day dedicated to 14-18 year old girls.

More than 40 girls from all over the island were present at the Olympic call on the Sparc complex.

On the program, detection of young talents, meeting with parents and coaches, explanations of the Olympic program, enough to give stars in the eyes to all girls.

A successful first Olympic day where girls from all over the island were able to share the values ​​of Olympism and ovality.

Ben Nunoo Mensah Hails Hon. B. T. Baba

Current president of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) Ben Nunoo Mensah has hailed one of his predecessors, Hon. Benson Tongo Baba formerly of the Ghana Prisons Service for his contribution to Ghana Sports.
Speaking at the maiden colloquium on empowering women to take up executive and administrative positions in sports, he praised B. T. Baba for acquiring the land at Amasaman for the GOC, which has become one of their most valuable assets, and promised to continue to develop the site which is now a community park to an international sports facility as required and proposed by the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA).
According to Nunoo Mensah, B. T. Baba is one of the biggest sports icons Ghana has produced after the likes of the late Ohene Djan.
He said Ghana lost a huge opportunity to have a big say in world sports when B. T. Baba’s name was withdraw from the Vice presidential contest of ANOCA after the change of administration at the GOC.

With the SA Rugby Sevens Academy team winning the International Invitational tournament in Dubai, it was understandable that Soyizwapi credited the Springbok Sevens programme as a whole

CAPE TOWN, South Africa, December 9, 2019/ -- To keep a New Zealand team scoreless in a rugby match is almost impossible; to prevent the All Black Sevens team from scoring in a final even more so.

Yet, that was exactly what the Blitzboks did on Saturday in the final of the Emirates Airlines Dubai Sevens, blanking the current Rugby World Cup Sevens and Commonwealth Games gold medallists in their 15-0 win, a defensive effort which left Springbok Sevens captain Siviwe Soyizwapi 'almost speechless.'

The winger turned 27 on Saturday and received the best birthday present from his team as they delivered a masterclass, handing the captain his very first gold medal in the Dubai Sevens.

CAPE TOWN, South Africa, December 9, 2019/ -- The HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series – as competitive as it is right now – is all about grabbing that one opportunity and the Springbok Sevens team would love nothing more than doing just that.

That is according to Blitzbok forward Dylan Sage, who will be back at the Cape Town Stadium for the first time in three years when the HSBC Cape Town Sevens kicks off on Friday, 13 December, playing in his 26th tournament for South Africa.

Sage made his Blitzbok debut in 2015, played again in 2016, but missed out in 2017 due to injury and 2018 because of Vodacom Super Rugby commitments.

GOC President urges women to take up leadership roles in sports

Mr. Ben Nunoo- Mensah, the President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) has urged women to take up leadership roles in sports, in order to meet up the 30% requirement in the next administration of GOC.
Women are expected to make up 30% of the next Executive Board of the GOC.
According to Mr. Nunoo-Mensah when women take up leadership positions in the various federations, it would make up the required percentage for the GOC, adding that it would also change their fortunes and that of the International Olympic committee (IOC).
He made this statement at the 2019 Women’s Sports Empowerment Colloquium which was organised by Women’s Sports Association of Ghana (WOSPAG) and was under the theme “Gender advocacy and empowerment through sports.”

CAPE TOWN, South Africa, December 4, 2019/ -- The British & Irish Lions could make history on an eight-game tour of South Africa in 2021, with Warren Gatland’s side set to play in front of the largest-ever crowd for a Lions Test since the game turned professional, after the itinerary was jointly announced on Wednesday.

​Six players in Delport’s squad of 13 will make their World Series debuts next weekend.
CAPE TOWN, South Africa, December 4, 2019/ -- Zintle Mpupha will captain the Springbok Women’s Sevens team at next weekend’s HSBC Cape Town Sevens tournament, while Zenay Jordaan, South Africa’s most experienced player in the HSBC World Rugby Women’s Sevens Series, will pull the strings for the Imbokodo as playmaker.

Imbokodo coach Paul Delport, Mpupha and Jordaan joined forces in the Commonwealth Games and Rugby World Cup Sevens last year, but playing in front of their home fans at the Cape Town Stadium for the very first time will be a personal highlight for the trio and the rest of the.

The Ghana blind Goalball team both male and female will face Nigeria, Cote D’Ivoire and South Africa in a four-nation international Goalball tournament from 12-16 December 2019 at the University of Cape Coast Sports Hall.
The Goalball team will use the four-nation tournament to prepare for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics games qualifiers to be held in a yet to be named African country after the original host Morocco pulled out as host.

Kok missed a large chunk of the Springbok Sevens pre-season after being allowed by Blitzbok coach Neil Powell to join French powerhouse club, Toulouse, on a short-term loan

CAPE TOWN, South Africa, December 4, 2019/ -- He is a former World Rugby Sevens Player of the Year, a two-time HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series winner, played in 47 tournaments and scored 106 tries for the Blitzboks. And still Werner Kok sees playing for the SA Rugby Sevens Academy side in Dubai this weekend as a step forward.

Kok missed a large chunk of the Springbok Sevens pre-season after being allowed by Blitzbok coach Neil Powell to join French powerhouse club, Toulouse, on a short-term loan and, consequently, is “restarting” his sevens career in the Academy side as they play for the Emirates Airline Dubai Sevens International Invitational Trophy.

The 26-year-old has no issues playing away from the TV cameras and on the outer fields in Dubai this time around. In fact, says Kok, this is just what he needs.

CAPE TOWN, South Africa, December 4, 2019/ -- Junior Springbok assistant coach, Bafana Nhleko – who is serving in the same capacity on the SA Under-19 team’s tour to Georgia – looked back at the positives from their 28-21 victory against the hosts on Monday, and singled out a few areas to work on ahead of their second and final tour match on Thursday.

The team overturned a halftime deficit of 18-14 to win their first match at the Shevardeni Rugby Stadium in the country’s capital, Tbilisi.

After reviewing the match on Tuesday morning, Nhleko said: “With such short preparation time and the testing playing conditions, the players did well to try to stick to the game plan. They adapted particularly well to the defensive breakdown interpretation, especially after conceding a few penalties in the first half.

The International Boxing Federation's (IBF) Inter-Continental super bantamweight championship fight between holder, Lodumo Lamati, and Ghana’s Wasiru ‘Gyatabi’ Mohammed has been postponed to March 8 in South Africa.
Lamatu, an undefeated fighter in 16 bouts, was billed to defend his crown against the Ghanaian World Boxing Organisation (WBO) Global super bantamweight titleholder on Sunday but was cancelled due to logistical inefficiencies
Disclosing the news to Graphic Sports Online, Yoofi Boham, a technical advisor to Wasiru, noted that they were supposed to arrive in South Africa on Wednesday for the fight on Sunday but had a message from the promoters indicating that the fight has been called off.

The newly constituted National Women’s League Committee held its first meeting at the GFA Secretariat on Tuesday 3 December.
The Committee’s maiden meeting was to bring all the board members up to speed with plans to restart the women’s competitions across the country and to discuss strategies geared towards improving all female club competitions.
Committee chairperson Madam Hillary Boateng and vice  chairperson Rosalind Amoh were all present at Tuesday’s meeting with members Nana Fosu Gyeabour II, Cleopatra Nsia Nketiah, Nana Aba Anamoah, Jerry Dugbatse and Christian Mensah all in attendance.

Coach Moses Cofie Returns Home To Train Premier Clubs

Ghanaian football coach Moses Cofie who made history after leading young Burkina Faso side, Rahimo FC to win the FA Cup in addition to the Premier League title has returned home.
He helped Rahimo to lift their second cup after winning the first trophy since joining the premiership three seasons ago – and the feat was celebrated wildly around the city of Bobo-Dioulasso – where the club is based.
“Having won the league and the FA Cup in Burkina Faso, I can say it’s not easy, but everything is possible. I now want to train Ghanaian clubs and take them to Africa” he expressed.
Cofie is a former player of Accra Great Olympics, Accra Hearts of Oak and Liberty Professionals who had a successful coaching career in Sudan, Burkina Faso and Ghana.
