Picture
The International Cricket Council (ICC) today confirmed the ICC World Test Championship points system will be amended due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Board approved a recommendation from the ICC Cricket Committee, headed by Anil Kumble, to change the competition terms for the event to determine how series affected by the global pandemic are accounted for on the points table.

The unprecedented disruption caused by COVID-19 means, to date, just under half of the World Test Championship matches have been played, with that estimated to rise to more than 85% by the end of the competition window.

Current regulations dictate that matches not completed shall be treated as a draw with points split. The Cricket Committee considered maintaining that status quo or determining the final World Test Championship League standings from matches played.

The Cricket Committee recommended the latter option, which was approved by the Chief Executives Committee and ratified by the Board, meaning teams will be ranked in order of percentage of points earned.

Mr. Samuel Koranteng, CSE of MTN Ghana has described 2020 as an amazing year.“Our dear invitational golf nearly did not happen for obvious reasons. Yet we’ve braced the odds to be here, a testament of our resilience as a people and as business men and women.

The pandemic resulted in a change in plans for the year, top of that, we lost some loved ones including our very own Prof Plange Rhule, MTN Ghana Foundation Board member and an ardent golfer. We will celebrate him in a special way shortly” he said.

According to him the tournament was organised to provide us an opportunity to relax, re-strategize and share insights on business performance in our usual cordial atmosphere. I am sure we have had a therapeutic effect playing.

“Please permit me to share some insights into our business activities for the year 2020. We themed 2020 as “The Year of the Customer, The Digital Experience”. This theme is in line with our objective to become a Digital Operator by the year 2023.
