NEW YORK (Tuesday, March 10, 2015) – Toronto FC forward Jozy Altidore was voted Major League Soccer Player of the Week by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) for the first week of the 2015 MLS season.
In his highly anticipated return to MLS, the U.S. Men’s National Team forward did not disappoint, finding the back of the net twice to lead Toronto FC to a 3-1 win over Canadian rivals Vancouver Whitecaps FC at BC Place on Saturday. The two goals scored in Vancouver marked Altidore’s first in MLS since 2008, when the striker was with the New York Red Bulls.
After going down 1-0 in the 19th minute, Toronto stunned the home crowd 13 minutes later with a fantastic combination between Designated Players Sebastian Giovinco and Atlidore to draw things level. Giovinco worked his way around the top of the area before playing an excellent through ball for Altidore who maneuvered around Vancouver ‘keeper David Ousted and slotted home his shot from inside the six-yard box.

After Toronto newcomer Robbie Findley scored the go-ahead goal in the 59th minute, Altidore sealed the deal in the last minute of play drawing a penalty after being taken down in the box by ‘Caps defender Pa Modou Kah. The brawny striker stepped up to the spot and cheekily chipped the ‘keeper to give TFC its first-ever win at BC Place in MLS play.
