PORTLAND, Ore. (Sunday, August 3, 2014) – MLS All-Star Head Coach Caleb Porter has selected Sporting Kansas City forward Dom Dwyer as a replacement for injured Toronto FC forward Jermain Defoe for Wednesday’s 2014 AT&T MLS All-Star Game against Bayern Munich (9:30 p.m. ET on ESPN2, UniMas, TSN, RDS).
Dwyer currently is tied for second in MLS with 14 goals this season. Dwyer has started 19 of 21 games for Sporting, the current league leaders in the Supporters’ Shield race. He helped Kansas City win MLS Cup 2013, appearing in all five MLS Cup Playoff matches and scoring the game-winning goal in the second leg of the Eastern Conference Championship.
Jermaine Defoe sustained an injury that prevented him from playing in Toronto’s game Saturday and will prevent him from competing in the All-Star Game.
