Matches pitting long time Soweto rivals Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs have always been an integral part of South Africa’s football calendar and things are set to heat up this weekend as the two giant’s battle it out in the MTN 8 final on Saturday night.

Tickets for the game were sold out in a matter of hours and in spite of the full house expected, fans from all over the continent will be able to witness the titans of South African football battling it out in a cup final of pay television channel, Supersport.

The levels of anticipation are already off the charts and it seems the hype has even been turned up a notch more, with justification. A cash prize of R8 is at stake.

Chiefs and Pirates will enter this cup final in splendid form, with a cracking match in prospect as they battle it out for the first domestic trophy of the season at the Moses Mabhida stadium in Durban.

It will be interesting to see how the two sides will take the cup final as Soweto Derbies have produced a string of draws over the past few years. They met earlier this year in the Carling Black Label, where fans are given the opportunity to be coaches, and could only be separated in a dreaded penalty shootout.

Kaizer Chiefs have won nine games in a row now in all competitions from the start of the season which guarantees them the slight favourites tagline. Mandla Masango and George Maluleka are having standout seasons, while Reneilwe Letsholonyane is busy showing that Bafana Bafana may have been premature in their decision to leave him out.

Pirates, however, are also running on all cylinders with Kermit Erasmus another who was unlucky to be left out of the Bafana squad. Lehlohonolo Majoro will be all out to prove a point against him former paymasters.

Football fans have called on both teams to produce a fully high scoring game and not a dull tactical battle they have often been made to witness.
