The Sierra Leone Swimming, Diving and Water Polo Association (SLWDWA) have purchased USD $ 6,000 worth of medals and trophies in preparation for their national championships later this year.
According to the Association’s scribe, Mohamed Turay, they are presently embarking on intensive preparations ahead of their line-up competitions in order not to fall short in any area of organising the upcoming tournaments.
“The medals and trophy engraved with the association details are specifically for winners in our upcoming locally competition, as lot of things are in stock for our swimmers,”Turay said and further revealed how optimistic he is that their annual open water Swimming Championship slated for ‘Borbor’ beach will go as planned this year.
The open tournament was schedule for the month of March and April with the hope that the current state of the country regarding the Ebola virus would have faded, but with little improvement, the SLSDWA scribe is still confident the tournament could be staged in either late March or April.
According to Turay, this is a very important year for them because they must compete in several championships in order to meet the qualifying standard for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games in Brazil.
” our swimmers have already missed the World championship in Qatar due to the Ebola outbreak but with the 2014 competition calendar now closed we must ensure we compete in other championship this year including the Africa competition in April,” he said.
