Sierra Leone’s national team, Leone Stars have dropped from the 87th to 88th spot in the latest World football governing body, FIFA rankings for the month of April. Despite not playing a single match during the international friendly window last month the team lost points.
Leone Stars whose last official match was against DR Congo last year in the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers scored a total of 382 points in this month’s world ranking to move a place down but still maintains a 23rd position placement out of 54 nations on the continent (Africa).
Interestingly they rank above former African Cup of Nations host Angola (24th), Morocco (25th) and Benin (26th) in both the African and the World ranking.
A total of 135 ‘A’ international matches were taken into account for the latest edition, taking the total number of games evaluated so far this year to 217. Of the new matches, 25 were qualifiers for Euro 2016, 26 were 2018 World Cup qualifiers (CONCACAF, AFC) and 84 were friendlies. The next FIFA Ranking will be published on May 7, 2015.
