
Conakry, Guinea, April 11, 2015 – Sierra Leone and Guinea reigned in both divisions of sub-zonal phase in Zone 2 of the CAVB Continental Cup earlier this month.
Guinea Conakry, Sierra Leone and Guinea Bissau competed for the two slots to qualify to the next phase – the zonal phase – after Mali withdrew from the competition.
In the men’s tournament, Sierra Leone won their matches against Guinea Conakry and Guinea Bissau to lead the tournament with 16 points ahead of hosts Guinea Conakry. The hosts earlier beat their neighbours Bissau to finish second and clinch the ticket to the zonal phase.
Control Committee president Ahmed Khanou was happy to supervise the tournament, as top Guinean sports officials showed their support for the event. Khanou also appreciated the efforts done by the Guinea Volleyball Federation to the successful organisation of the tournament.
Minister of Sports, Ms Domani Dore, national federation president Mory Keita, and Guinean Olympic Committee vice-president Germaine Mangue, were the guests of honour at the opening ceremony.
