Jonathan Boyer, made the declaration a head of the Africa Mountain Bike Tour the Rwandan Cycling Federation will host in Musanze from 8- 10 May and it will also be used for next year Olympic games qualification.
Boyer told the online The New Times of Rwanda that Team Rwanda Cycling will not just be mere participants at the race but will also strive to rise to the occasion though he acknowledged it will not be a cake-walk.
Nonetheless, he was optimistic that his riders had the potential to make a mark though they will be competing with the battle hardened riders from countries that are good in this sport.
“The race will be difficult, but our riders are strong and they have been improving and we hope they will do a good job,” he said.
Rwanda is expected to feature a team of eight riders, seven of whom will be drawn elite category while the remaining slot will be filled in by a rider from junior ranks.
The Musanze race is billed to produce fireworks and attract high profiled on the continent who will be jockeying for 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games places.
Some of the countries that have registered to take part in the race are; Egypt, Kenya, Lesotho, Mauritius, Namibia, South Africa and Zimbabwe.
