Sousse, Tunisia, March 12 2015 - Esperance of Tunisia and Setif of Algeria completed the 2015 African Men's Club Championship quarterfinal line-up on Day 5 of the competition. The eight quarterfinalists will compete for the African title and a berth at the FIVB Volleyball Men's Club World Championship in Brazil.
Esperance defeated FAR of Morocco and Setif were victorious against Libyans Ahly Benighazi. They join hosts Etoile Sportive du Sahel, Egyptian giants Ahly, Zamalek, newcomers Somoha, Algeria's Borj Bouaririj and Morocco's Ittihad Tangier, who confirmed their participation in the quarterfinals on Wednesday.
The biggest upset on the last day of the preliminary round saw Algeria's Bourj Bouaririj defeat 10-times champions Ahly of Egypt 3-0 (25-22, 25-23, 25-23).
Etoile Du Sahel lead the Pool A ranking with a win-loss ratio of 5-0. They will be joined by Morocco's Ittihad Tangier (4-1) in the quarterfinals.
In Pool B, Zamalek lead with a 5-0 win record, followed by Esperance on Tunisia on 4-1. In Pool C, Bourj Bouaririj are also on 5-0, followed by Ahly of Egypt, who have won four matches and lost one. Somoha surprised onlookers in Pool D with 5 consecutive victories and qualify for the quarterfinals ahead of Setif of Algeria.
The third and fourth ranked teams in each pool will participate in the playoffs for positions 9-16, while the teams ranked fifth and sixth will compete for places 17 to 24.
