NEW YORK, ARLINGTON, & MEXICO CITY (May 21, 2015) – The Mexican National Team, Soccer United Marketing (SUM), Dallas Cowboys and FC Dallas announced today that Mexico will take on two-time FIFA World Cup Champions Argentina on Tuesday, September 8, 2015 (10:00 p.m. ET) at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, TX, as part of its 2015 U.S. Tour. The state-of-the-art venue has been a steadfast ally for El Tricolor, hosting exceptional crowds and selling out each and every of the five games the team has played at the stadium since it inaugurated in 2009. This will be the first meeting between Mexico and Argentina since the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
With the game scheduled on a FIFA fixture date, both squads are expected to bring their top stars. Mexico and Argentina feature some of the biggest names in the sport. The South American side boasts global icons like FC Barcelona’s Lionel Messi and Javier Mascherano, Manchester City’s Sergio Agüero and Manchester United’s Ángel Di María. El Tricolor’s arsenal includes Real Madrid’s Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernández, PSV Eindhoven’s Andrés Guardado and Villarreal’s Giovanni dos Santos. Mexico and Argentina will look to launch their preparations for the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, as well as the 2016 Centennial Copa America, which will be played in the United States in the summer of 2016.
Mexico and Argentina last played on June 27, 2010 with La Albiceleste defeating El Tricolor 3-1 in the Round of 16 of the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. The match at AT&T Stadium will mark the 28th encounter between the nations and the first one in Texas. In all meetings, Argentina leads Mexico with 12 wins, 11 draws and 4 losses.
Mexico has won both 2015 U.S. Tour matches already played, earning victories over Ecuador (1-0) in front of a sold-out crowd in Los Angeles, and against Paraguay (1-0) in Kansas City. Upcoming tour matches also include: June 27 vs. Costa Rica in Orlando and July 1 vs. Honduras in Houston.
The September U.S. Tour match will be the sixth time Mexico plays at the famed AT&T Stadium since it first inaugurated the venue during the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup. The venue last hosted Mexico on May 31, 2014 in a U.S. Tour match in preparation for the FIFA World Cup in Brazil, when a sold-out crowd witnessed Mexico’s 3-1 victory over Ecuador.
