The Managing Director of Mercury International, Mr. Martin Michael on Saturday pledged the company’s continued supports towards sports in the country.
The Sports betting company has over the years become the leading business entity in sports sponsorship in the country and the MD believe such gesture will still continue.
He said: “Sponsorship as we all know is extremely difficult to get. Many business houses have washed their hands off sports however some continue to show interest but their interest must be encouraged and not discouraged.

He said: “Sponsorship as we all know is extremely difficult to get. Many business houses have washed their hands off sports however some continue to show interest but their interest must be encouraged and not discouraged.
“I know that the Ministry has policies in place to encourage sponsorship of sports through tax rebates. This is a start we must ensure transparency and proper accounting by sporting associations. Sponsors need to know that their monies have been judiciously spent. As an association you have the most important role to play to ensure this transparency.”
Michael further stated: “At Mercury International we shall continue our support of sports in Sierra Leone. I do not need to go into details of what we have done as a company but just to assure that we have no intention of stopping.”
The sports betting and lottery company support is not only limited to sporting disciplines but also to that of Sports journalists and the company’s MD admitted they (Mercury International) had a fantastic relationship with sports writers association, SWASAL.
“We have tried to support as many of SWASAL activities as possible but we have done so without seeking favours from them. We have always indicated to the executive that we respect their independence and that our support of their association is not to buy favours but to assist them in carrying out their duty for the good of our country,” Michael said.
