Bush Mwale opened the scoring for Kenya, Lavin Asego converting for a 7-0 score but Alvarez' converted try saw the teams deadlocked 7-7 at the interval.
Second half substitute Leonard Mugaisi scored a second half brace, Asego managing one conversion to put Felix Ochieng's charges 19-7 up. Mwale landed his brace for a 24-7 score. The Kenyans would survive two late Argentine tries and a Dennis Muhanji red card to claim the result that sees them stay 12th on the log with an improved points tally of 29.
They reached the bowl final with a 17-7 bowl quarter final win over Portugal, a match in which Lavin Asego would score his milestone 50th Sevens World Series try before disposing of Samoa 19-5 in the semi.
