The special thing about Telemark racing is that it combines the various Nordic disciplines with one another. In addition to the downhill run, the athletes also have to master a jump and land in a classical Telemark stance. The racers have to negotiate a loop (360° banked curve) and then overcome a skating passage until they cross the finishing line. The riding style is an important point-awarding factor, but the racers also need to ensure that they achieve or exceed the specified minimum jumping distance and that they don’t forget to perform the Telemark stance, otherwise they will suffer second penalties. This ensures that the races are both entertaining and exciting, from the start to the finish.
