It was the second Bronze medal for the African continent after Cameroon won the first medal for Africa in women’s Weightlifting.
Abugri path to the bronze went through his bouts with South Africa’s Daniel Le Grange in the quarter final s and against Brandon George of Wales.
Meanwhile, England’s Ashley McKenzie won the gold medal after he defeated Navjot Chana of India in the final.

In related development, Azumah Mohammed progressed to the Round of 16 in the Men’s welterweight boxing tournament after defeating Joseph Deireragea of the pacific island Nauru. The 22-year old boxer won in all the three rounds of the contest to advance with scores of 30-27 in each of the rounds.
Azumah will now face England’s Scott Fitzgerald who defeated Ron Bastien of the Caribbean island of St. Lucia in the Round of 32.
Another Ghanaian boxer, Jessie Lartey will compete in the Men’s Lightweight event on Saturday 26th July against Nassar Mafuru Mafuru of Tanzania whilst Abdul Omar will fight against Junior Kauko Raka of Papua New Guinea in the Men’s Flyweight (52kg) and David Akankolim will face Kennedy St Pierre of Mauritius in the Men’s Light Heavy Weight (81kg) on the 27th of July.
