Gihanga, Burundi, August 15, 2014 - The 5th edition of the African Great Lakes Friendship Games, which will take place from August 15-17, will bring together over 300 nine to 16-year-olds from Burundi, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Rwanda, to raise awareness about peace through the practice of sport.
The children participating in the Friendship Games compete in different events. The emphasis is also put on cultural activities, which help to develop awareness on important issues. The event is not just aimed at young people, however: the Games are a unique opportunity to bring together people of different ages and backgrounds from all over the Great Lakes region. They have proved effective in building and strengthening ties among communities, national sports federations and national authorities, and are a true platform for diplomacy through sport.
