Though not as offensively smooth as African legend and Nigerian American basketball start Hakeem ‘the Dream’ Olajuwon was, Congo’s Dikembe Mutombo has followed closely on the heels of his fellow African by his defensive presence on the court evident by his blocked shots and rebounding.
Renowned for his finger wagging which he did as a celebration and a warring to other players in the league after blocking their shots, the towering Congolese was not just known for his on court dominance but also for his humanitarian side which saw him build a $30 million hospital named after his Mother in his native Congo.

Mutombo will be amongst the inductees for this year’s Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, which include Celtics great Jo Jo White, former WNBA star Lisa Leslie, NBA referee Dick Bavetta, University of Kentucky Coach John Calipari along with former NBA player Spencer Haywood as revealed earlier today.
