After an opening day of exciting action which saw Nigeria beat hosts Niger 2-0 and Guinea collect maximum points with a 1-0 win over Zambia, action at the 11th edition of the CAFU17 championship shifts to Group B where defending champions Cote d'Ivoire enter the fray against South Africa's Amajimbos in Group B. Mali and Cameroon also face off in the second of a double-header at the Stade Municipal.

Cameroon, winners in 2003 in Swaziland, have not been to the semi-finals since their triumph and will be wary of a Mali side that is eager to get to the last four since their last best showing in 1997 when they were runners up, having the lost the final 1-0 to Egypt in Gaborone and in 1999 when they were third place finishers. In that 1999 3rd/4th place match, Mali edged Cameroon 1-0.
