The Proteas have finally won some silverware ahead of the 2015 ICC World Cup. They defeated Australia by an impressive six wickets in Saturday’s final in Harare, Zimbabwe to restore confidence ahead of the trophy that has eluded them for so long – the cricket world cup.
Cricket South Africa (CSA) has congratulated the Proteas for the big win over Australia and expressed optimism that they will take the victory as motivation ahead of the biennial event.
“There is no doubt that our ODI team is improving every day. Over the past 10 months they have enjoyed outstanding success with series wins over India and Australia, the tow previously highest ranked sides on the ICC ODI rankings table.

“What has been particularly pleasing has been their growth as a team and the manner in which they have adjusted after losing legends to retirement. The advancements made by the likes of Faf Du Plessis and Aaron Phangiso personifies the progress this team has made. Dale Steyn’s progress in Saturday’s final was very special,” said CSA Chief Executive, Haroon Lorgat.
Lorgat added the path is now set for them to grow in stature as they prepare for more tough away series in New Zealand and Australia in October and November this year.
