Day three of the week long tournament determines which teams go through to the quarterfinals, while the worst performing team is knocked out of the tournament.
Royal Wizards were sent packing after losing their second match1–0 to the hosts, Coastal United in the first match of the day. They were walloped 16–0 by Cape Town Roses in their first match.
“I am happy that we have managed to get out of the group stages. It would have been embarrassing to be knocked out early as the home team. We now have to work very hard going into the knockout stage,” said Sindile Fodo, Coastal United Ladies coach.
The last match of the day saw what started as a nail biting clash between three times champions, Palace Super Falcons and Coal City Wizards from Mpumalanga.
The Mpumalanga team went down 6 - 1 to Gauteng’s Falcons. Zandile Mxasa opened the scoring for Falcons four minutes into the game, before Sasol Banyana Banyana midfielder, Mamello Makhabane extended the lead just before the half-time break. Mxasa completed her hat-trick in the second half, Makhabane a brace and Martha Mokoma getting her second at the tournament. Nonhlanhla Mtshweni got a consolation goal for Coal City in the dying minutes of the game.
Cape Town Roses top group A, while Falcons top group B and Kanatla Ladies in group C.
With one team (Royal Wizards) being knocked-out, the eight remaining teams will play quarter finals on tomorrow, 11 December.
