8 October 2014 – The South African Football Association (SAFA) will be having one of its most busy and critical weekends in the history of the sport.

On Saturday morning, SAFA will hold its Annual General Congress in which a number of ground-breaking outcomes are going to be unveiled and announced.

Later in the day, Bafana Bafana will play Congo Brazzaville in a critical Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match which will go a long way in putting the Senior Men’s National Team one foot on the plane to Morocco if they are to grab three points. The match is expected to kick off 16h30 SA time.

On the same afternoon, Banyana Banyana will attend the African Women Championships opening ceremony in Windhoek, Namibia before taking on Cameroon in their opening AWC match on Sunday, 12 October 2014.

“This is one of the busiest weekends in our football history. All events starting from the AGM, the Bafana Bafana match against Congo and Banyana versus Cameroon are critical in pushing Vision 2022 forward,” said SAFA President, Dr Danny Jordaan.

Among the highlights of the AGM will be the presence of President Jacob Zuma and all former Presidents of the Republic of South Africa at the AGM. The number one statesman and his predecessors (Thabo Mbeki, Kgalema Motlanthe and FW de Klerk) will be honoured for their immense contribution to the game of football.

The late former President, Nelson Mandela will also be honoured posthumously for the role he played in the development of the sport.

At the AGM, SAFA will announce an end-of-year considerable profit following years of realising huge losses. The financial turnaround strategy is a result of the Association entering into partnership with several new corporate partners and exercising stringent financial controls among others.

After the AGM, delegates attending the Congress at the Sandton Convention Centre will be afforded the opportunity to watch Bafana Bafana versus Congo live from the big screens that will be erected at the nearby hall.

They can also have an opportunity to watch the AWC opening ceremony which will be a precursor for Banyana Banyana’s opening match against Cameroon the following day in Windhoek.
