In a low key meet in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland Botswana 400 meters runner Isaac Makwala emulated fellow Botswana athlete Amantle Montsho; the female 400 meters World Champion and national record holder for Botswana as he set a new national and an African record in the 400 meters of 44.01seconds breaking the former record set by Congolese Gary Kikaya of 44.10 seconds back in 2006.

In a report by Athletics Africa the Botswana athlete was also in prime form in the 200 meters as he set a new national record running a sub 20 seconds time of 19.96 seconds.
Botswana is now a legitimate Track & Field Powerhouse with the likes of Isaac Makwala, Amantle Montsho and Nigel Amos all of whom are elite world class athletes that can medal at any major international meet.
