The deal will see the two parties collaborate on various initiatives particularly youth development in Algeria. There is also an existing link between Algerian football and Real Madrid as Karim Benzema and Zinedine Zidane, both originally Algerian, have turned out for the club.
Sheikh Saud Al Thani Ooredoo Qatar CEO said the deal is in line with the company’s sport strategy as it bids to increase its presence and participation in the sector. “Ooredoo’s partnership with Real Madrid comes as a natural move in our global sport strategy after other key initiatives. Ooredoo group will do its utmost to make this partnership a big success in Algeria,” he said.
“We are delighted to open a new chapter in the history of football that Algeria and Real Madrid share. Our love and belonging to Algeria are demonstrated through actions and not through words and writings,” he added.
On their part, Real Madrid have expressed their delight at confirming the deal as Institutional Relations Director at Real Madrid ,Emilio Butragueño said the club was keen to explore its deep connections with Algerian football.
“We are pleased to welcome a leader such as Ooredoo Algeria in the very exclusive circle of our international sponsors. We know that many Algerians support Real Madrid and I can assure you that Algeria holds a special place in the heart of the Real Madrid,” Butragueno said.
“Zinedine Zidane is a legend and I am sure that this partnership will help outstanding young Algerian talents to succeed thanks to the collaboration with Ooredoo. We have never been approached for a charity match in Algeria but it is not excluded that we organize such a match with Ooredoo as soon as the schedule will allow,” he added
