Ghana have been drawn in what has loosely been referred to as the group of death at this year’s tournament, primarily because they will compete against Algeria, South Africa and Senegal in Group C.
This is why Mahama has urged Ghanaians to get behind their team in the build-up to and during the continental showpiece.
"The players must up their game, because due to the Brazil issues many Ghanaians have lost interest in the Black Stars but my plea is that they (Black Stars) are also a national team and we must support them," Mahama told ExposeGhana.com.
"The boys [Black Stars players] have talents and the way things are going and how the coach is going about with his job I still believe that they will make an impact in the tournament.
"Though Ghana’s Group is tough and all the teams in the Group are all at par, but they know Ghana is a tough team and they are all frightened that they are in the same Group with Ghana," added the Ghanaian head of state.
