The Maracanazinho Arena will host the volleyball tournament at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, April 9, 2015 - The first week of sales has seen fans apply for 1.2 million tickets for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, with volleyball one of the sports in greatest demand for Brazilians. The Olympic volleyball tournament will be played at the Maracanazinho Arena, which will also host the FIVB Volleyball World League Group 1 Finals in 2015.
The most popular sports in terms of ticket requests so far have been volleyball, football and basketball. Beach volleyball, which will take place at a temporary stadium on Copacabana Beach, one of the country’s most famous landmarks, also features in the list of the top 10 most favoured sports, alongside artistic gymnastics, swimming, athletics, tennis, judo and handball.

In a previous announcement, Rio 2016 Executive Director of Communications Mario Andrada said 27% of the ticketing website’s users had registered an interest in volleyball, putting the sport ahead of other popular events including football, swimming and athletics.
