KAMPALA (AfroBasket Women 2015) - Uganda head coach Timothy Odeke has announced his final 12-player roster for the upcoming AfroBasket Women 2015 in Yaounde, Cameroon, from 24 September-3 October.

According to the Ugandan Basketball Federation (FUBA): "It was a tough task for the coaching crew to select the 12 players that will fly Uganda's flag at the 12-team championship."

The squad, mostly selected from the Ugandan League, will be led by 39-year-old small forward Monica Siima.

The Eastern Africans will compete in Group A against hosts Cameroon, Mozambique, South Africa, Gabon and Mali.

Uganda were forced to withdraw from the ongoing 11th All-Africa Games in Brazzaville, Republic of Congo ahead of their debut in Africa's biggest women's basketball competition due to funding issues.

However, they hope to put up some stiff competition against their Group Phase opponents, no matter their pedigree in the game.

Speaking about the team's preparations, FUBA President Ambrose Tashobya told FIBA.com: "The whole region is relying on the Ugandan ladies to help shore up some respect for the region.

The team will do its best to get to the knock-out stage from Group A - Tashobya

Uganda and the entire East Africa region of the continent has high hopes for coach Odeke's side and FUBA also believe in a team that finished ahead of tough opponent during Africa Zone 5 qualifiers.

"Our core value rests on team spirit though we know the players will be playing at a big stage such as the AfroBasket Women for the first time, but that does not mean they will be intimidated," Tashobya concluded.

Uganda final roster for AfroBasket Women 2015: Rebecca Akullo, Moreen Amoding, Lisa Karungi, Sharon Karungi, Flavia Oketcho, Proscovia Peace, Sylivia Nakazibwe, Muhayimina Namuwaya, Judith Nansobya, Thecia Nassolo, Martha Soigi and Monica Siima.
