Giovinco put in another stunning MVP performance, notching his second brace of the season in the Reds’ 2-1 victory over Supporters’ Shield leaders D.C. United at RFK Stadium on Saturday. The Italian international is the first player to win back-to-back Player of the Week honors in 2015, and did so in impressive fashion.
After defender Steve Birnbaum gave D.C. United the early lead in the sixth minute, Toronto leveled the score 28 minutes later with a bit of magic from Giovinco. The dynamic forward took on D.C. defender Sean Franklin on the left side and worked his way into the six-yard box with a nifty move. Giovinco then provided a beautiful finish from a tight angle at the near post to draw 1-1.
Toronto FC returns to MLS action on Saturday. June 20 when it hosts Eastern Conference newcomers New York City FC at BMO field at 7:00 p.m. ET (MLS LIVE).
