Giovinco propelled the Reds to a 3-1 victory over the San Jose Earthquakes with a world-class effort at BMO Field on Saturday. The 5’5” forward—affectionately known as the Atomic Ant—helped TFC extend its unbeaten streak to three games with a pair of assists and four shots on goal. San Jose’s back line had no answer for the Italian Designated Player, who also rang a pair of shots off the woodwork and now is tied for first in MLS in shots and ranks second in shots on goal and assists.
Later, in the 71st minute, Giovinco gave TFC a two-goal cushion with his second assist of the game, showcasing his world-class skill and first touch in the process. He settled a beautiful ball from Michael Bradley with the outside of his right boot and seamlessly connected with Luke Moore, who tapped the pass under a sprawling David Bingham to secure the Reds’ win.
Giovinco nearly netted a much-deserved goal off a free kick in the 94th minute, but again was denied by the woodwork.
Toronto FC returns to action on Saturday night at RFK Stadium, where the Reds face Eastern Conference foe D.C. United at 7:00 p.m. ET (MLS LIVE).
