Vice President of the Sierra Leone Athletics Association (SLAA), Emeric Cole has said they will possibly announce a new date for their long overdue elective congress this week.
The new congress date would be in line with the International Athletics Federation IAAF recent call for an election to be organized by the current executive before 30 December, 2015 or Sierra Leone faces international actions.
However, the SLAA Vice President maintained that the new congress date will be announced based on the approval of the Sports Ministry and the National Sports Council.
The Abdul Karim led Executive mandate came to an end in April this year but failed to take the membership to congress due to the Ebola scourge and in house wrangling over the elegibility of candidates to vote and be voted for.
Following several tussles within and out of the association a faction of stakeholders who labeled themselves as ‘Legitimate Stakeholders of SLAA' conducted an extra-ordinary meeting on the 20th November 2015 and elected Rtd. Maj. Palo Conteh as President –a decision that the international federation voided calling for fresh elections.
The IAAF’s decision gave an initial victory to the Karim outgoing executive who did not participate in the election with Palo Conteh.
