DAKAR (AfroBasket 2015) - Senegal’s head coach Cheikh Sarr has trimmed his preliminary squad, and Saer Sene has been selected for the final roster for the upcoming AfroBasket 2015.
The 2.12m center, who starred for his country at AfroBasket 2013 held in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire, is among the four players joining the Senegalese team who collected a 2-4 record at last year’s FIBA Basketball World Cup in Spain.
Sene who struggled with injuries wasn’t picked for the World Cup.
But, Sene is not the only one making his return for Senegal.
Antoine Mendy, who last represented Senegal at AfroBasket 2009, and Ibrahima Mbengue who wore the Senegalese uniform in Abidjan a couple of years ago, are also set to play for Senegal in Tunisia 2015.
The tournament runs from 19 - 30 August in Rades, outskirts of Tunis, and Senegal have been drawn in Group B along with reigning champions Angola, Morocco and Mozambique.
Notably absence in coach Sarr’s options was local-based Mamadou Ndoye, a veteran point guard who sparked Senegal’s offence in the last few years.
Senegal will resume their training camp in Spain, where they will participate in a four-team international tournament in Santander.
They will play the host nation, Angola and Poland from 15 - 16 August.
