Germany's biggest trail-running event clearly enjoys immense popularity by now. Registrations have been filed from over 50 countries for this year's fifth edition of the race. More than 2,200 athletes are expected to participate in a full or partial circumnavigation of the Zugspitz Mountain massif. While the full 100-K loop may be the big draw for the intrepid, four shorter courses along the mountain's perimeter are once again the main attraction for the majority of participating runners. Given the distance many of them have to travel to get there in the first place, the race seems to have some magic appeal.
This year's runners hail from far-flung places such as New Zealand, Brazil, China and Guatemala – just to name a few of the 50 nations represented at the SALOMON ZUGSPITZ ULTRA 2015. In just five years, the number of countries racers call home has doubled. Actual numbers of participants have more than tripled since the inaugural event in 2011. The roster of available courses in the event also has kept up with growing interest offering a quintuple of race distances ranging from a 25K „sprint“ race to the 100K „long-haul“
