The State and Pistorius’s defence teams are expected to file their heads of argument by 17 September.
According to eNCA, five judges will hear the appeal.
On Valentine’s Day 2013, Pistorius shot four times through his bathroom door, killing Steenkamp. He pleaded not-guilty to murder, claiming he only wanted to protect Steenkamp from what he believed was an intruder in his home.
The state wants Pistorius to be convicted of the more serious charge of murder for shooting dead Steenkamp, who was a model and law graduate.
