New York Red Bulls’ Luis Robles Named Allstate Goalkeeper of the Year

Robles led all MLS goalkeepers with 18 wins while the Red Bulls surrendered the fewest goals in the Eastern Conference 
NEW YORK, NY (Thursday, Nov. 19, 2015) – Major League Soccer announced today that New York Red Bulls goalkeeper Luis Robles is the 2015 Allstate Goalkeeper of the Year.
 
Now in his fourth year with the New York Red Bulls, Robles led all MLS goalkeepers with 18 wins as the team won the 2015 MLS Supporters’ Shield with the best regular season record. Robles registered nine shutouts and the Red Bulls surrendered the fewest goals (43) in the Eastern Conference, which helped the club post the highest goal differential (+19) in the entire league.

And as impressive as Robles was in goal, he also demonstrated a calming influence and leadership in anchoring a defense that featured 20-year-old center back Matt Miazga, veteran Damien Perrinelle, who only started two MLS matches the previous year, and a total of 10 players who were called to start at least five matches along the backline over the course of the 34-game regular season.
 
The 31-year-old has now started every regular season game for each of the past three seasons, playing every minute. His streak of 106 consecutive regular season starts is the third-longest in MLS history, and he is the first player in MLS history to start 100 consecutive regular season games for the same team.
