A FIFA international window officially opens today and 35 MLS players have been tapped by their respective countries for a variety of World Cup Qualifiers, Euro Qualifiers, exhibition matches, and of course, the CONACACF Cup. The slate of players called in is headlined by Sebastian Giovinco, who will represent Italy in a pair of Euro Qualifiers versus Azerbaijan (10/10) and Norway (10/13) along with MLS colleague and NYCFC star Andrea Pirlo. The Toronto FC forward was called in for two previous qualifiers in August, but missed the matches with an abductor injury. Now healthy and setting records in MLS, Giovinco will represent the Azzurri for the first time since November 2014.
In addition, Orlando City SC captain Kaká was named to Brazil’s squad for this week’s 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifying matches versus Chile (10/8) and Venezuela (10/13), while FC Dallas’ Fabian Castillo earns his second call up to the Colombian national team for upcoming exhibition games versus Peru (10/8) and Uruguay (10/13).
