Maritzburg United want Steve Komphela back at work immediately if they do not receive financial compensation for the coach's departure within the next 24 hours.

This is according to Maritzburg chairman Farouk Kadodia, who told Sport24 exclusively that the club had not yet been compensated financially after Komphela activated a buy-out clause in his contract that was due to run until June 2016.

Kadodia said he had given Komphela's agent Tim Sukazi an ultimatum.

"I've given Tim Sukazi the ultimatum that if we don't get settlement within the next day then Steve must report back to Maritzburg until the end of July," said Kadodia.

"The notice period ends at the end of July, the contract only ends at the end of June next year.

"So the contractual settlement is what Chiefs and Tim Sukazi are supposed to be taking responsibility for. We made an ultimatum that this thing is dragging on now and we need it settled in the next day otherwise Steve must report for duty at Maritzburg and serve his notice period at Maritzburg.

"It's a contractual obligation between Steve and Maritzburg, and Tim represents Steve."

Kadodia could not confirm how much the club was owed in compensation, though a local media report suggested that the figure was R1million.

Sport24 contacted Sukazi, who acknowledged that no money had paid to Maritzburg as yet.

"Payment will happen in due date," said Sukazi.

"Things don't happen and then payments are done now. Usually you terminate today and then payment will be done by 'x' date."

Sukazi added that there was an existing dispute between Maritzburg and Komphela.

"The only thing that has brought a poser to the situation is that there is an extra payment that Maritzburg is asking for which is not contracted for," said Sukazi.

"So we are failing to agree on that, and that's it."
