MADRID (AfroBasket 2015) - As Angola enter the last days of their six-week training camp mostly held in Madrid, Spain, head coach Moncho Lopez on Saturday announced the team’s final roster for the upcoming AfroBasket 2015.
There hasn’t been major changes from Angola’s latest teams, but a few new faces will wear the uniform of the AfroBasket reigning champions for the very first time in FIBA Africa’s flagship tournament.
While 36-year-old Eduardo Mingas is set to play his sixth consecutive African Championship, Roberto Fortes who has featured for Angola in two consecutive World Championships, will make his AfroBasket debut in Tunisia from 19 - 30 August.
Fortes stood out throughout the training camp, having helped Angola beat Venezuela in three of their four warm-up games, including a team-high 13 points in Sunday’s 72-61 triumph.
Alongside Fortes, Recreativo do Libolo's rising star Braulio Morais - the younger brother of Carlos - will make his debut with the Angolan senior team.
Domingos Bonifacio, who replaced injured Milton Barros in the preliminary-squad, was left out of Lopez’s options mainly after suffering a facial injury, which forced him to sit out over a week of the training camp.
Edmir Lucas and Malick Cisse were also left out of Angola's final roster.
Meanwhile, before the Angolans open their AfroBasket campaign in Group B, which includes Senegal, Morocco and Mozambique, they will be part of a four-team tournament in Santander, Spain, along with the host nation - who is gearing up for the EuroBasket 2015 -, Senegal and Poland from 15 - 16 August.
