Keane led the LA Galaxy’s scoring outburst in Sunday’s 5-1 win over New York City FC, turning in a brace and two assists in a star-studded affair at the StubHub Center. Keane now has four multi-goal games in his last seven league matches. The commanding win moved the reigning MLS Cup champions into the top spot in the Supporters’ Shield race with a total of 46 points. This marks Keane’s third Player of the Week selection of 2015, tying him with Toronto FC’s Sebastian Giovinco for the most nods among all MLS players this season.
Keane returned the favor to dos Santos in the 67th minute, playing the Mexican standout into a breakaway by drawing NYCFC’s defense in and tapping a nimble through-ball into space for dos Santos, who managed to chip one past Saunders again (watch assist). Keane went on to record the Galaxy’s 1,000th regular season goal – the first team to reach that mark in MLS – in the 81st minute, and put the finishing touch on LA’s win. Robbie Rogers picked up a back-heel pass from Sebastian Lletget, made a run down the left flank, and fed an open Keane in front of the net for the Galaxy’s final tally of the afternoon (watch goal).
LA Galaxy returns to MLS action on Friday, August 28, in a California Clásico showdown with the San Jose Earthquakes at Avaya Stadium at 11 p.m. ET (UniMás).
