Lausanne, Switzerland, December 7, 2015 – The Kenyan women’s volleyball team have begun their preparations for the Africa Olympic qualifiers. The 26 players who were named on Thursday by coach Japheth Munala will train for two weeks before breaking for Christmas.
Speaking to Kenya’s Nation newspaper, Munala said he is focused on taking the team to the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
“We have had a fairly good year, but there will always be bigger obstacles to conquer,” he stated. “Right now, we have the Olympic Qualifiers and I want us to feature prominently in the Games and not just participate. The first step is to prove that we are indeed good enough to represent Africa and that is why we have begun our preparations early.”
On Facebook, Wanja said she had been “dropped” from the national team.
The squad of 26 will be reduced to 12 players before travelling to Yaounde, Cameroon, in February for the Olympic Qualifiers.
