Mogadishu, Somalia, November 2, 2015 – The Somali Volleyball Federation has successfully concluded the country’s 28th Men’s Championship with the Somali military team Horsed winning the final match.
Horsed, the country’s most powerful volleyball team, defeated W-CAAF 3-1 at the Wiish Stadium. The spectators included Somali Director General Ministry of Sports Abdullahi Abow Hussein and NOC Executive Committee members Haji Mohamed Ahmed Olow and Ibrahim Hussein Ali Rombe.
“On behalf of the Somali Volleyball Federation, I would like to thank JUBBA Airways and Daalo Airline who donated equipment to the participating teams,” he said. “Our teams have no sponsors and without JUBBA and Daalo we couldn’t have had such a successful competition.
“Volleyball is now growing here in Somalia and we are planning to participate in the near future in Zone 5 beach volleyball competitions.” The Secretary General added that his federation would also participate in FIVB and CAVB meetings.
Somali Volleyball Federation President Engineer Abdulkader Omar Abukar thanked African Volleyball Confederation President Amir Elwani who, he said, was strongly committed to helping promote volleyball in Somalia.
“I also would like to thank CAVB Director Mrs. Howda Mondy who assisted in the revival of Somalia’s influence in Africa as well as in the Zone 5 area,” President Abukar added.
