In connection to the superb performance of the Female national cricket team in the North West Africa [NWACC] T20 tournament that is ongoing in the Gambia, Mr. Andrew S.A Kamara has urged government to render worthy support to the Sierra Leone Cricket Association for the continued development of the sport.
Kamara was admittedly amazed by the brilliant performance of the ladies in their matches played against other teams in the tournament. He said the ladies have proven to be true ambassadors of Sierra Leone, flying the country’s flag high in another land.
He emphasized that the Sierra Leone government should provide a significant financial boost to the Cricket Association to encourage the rapid growth of the game in the country.
He stated that even with the little support they are receiving now that has motivated them and were very impressive in the competition ‘’ we as Sierra Leoneans in the Gambia are very proud of them’’ he said
Kamara told the press that since he assumed office in the Embassy in Gambia, no sporting discipline from Sierra Leone has ever put up such performance ‘’It is very unique and historic in our country’s sport history’’ he said.
He recalled that cricket was the best sport in Sierra Leone that has previously won huge glory for the country, and now that the women have emerged, it’s a plus for the association.
Meanwhile, according to officials of the Sierra Leone Cricket Association, the team received little or no financial support from the government towards their participation.
