Sierra Leonean center-back, Gibril ‘Barrel’ Sankoh recently penned a one-year deal with Holland Eredavise side, Roda JC.
The 32-year-old defender was able to sign for one season with the Dutch outfit as a free player after his contract with Chinese club Henan Jianye was earlier terminated by mutual consent.
Sankoh who holds a Dutch passport had been training with his former club, FC Groningen since his departure from China and was hoping to reinforce a contract with club but a deal could not be struck due to financial disagreement.
The club managing director Wim Collard said he hopes the defender could fit in the team’s style of play.
He said: "We were looking for a defender with experience and are glad we get Gibril who can add to the selection. He knows the Dutch Eredivisie and we are confident that will fit his style of play at Roda JC."
Roda JC move ends Sankoh’s five years spell outside Dutch football since he depart FC Groningen to side FC Augsburg and later moved on to China.
