Algiers, Algeria, December 6, 2015 - The Gambia Volleyball Federation (GVBF) received an award from the African Volleyball Confederation (CAVB) on Thursday in recognition of its status as one of the best emerging national federations in Africa. GVBF President Yunusa Barry received the award at the CAVB Congress in Algiers last week - the historic accolade comes on the back of the GVBF's significant achievements in 2015.
The GVBF has moved forward with its implementation of the African Dream Project, aiming to promote volleyball in schools. Centres will be set up to identify athletes at a young age and help them to develop the skills they will need to join the youth national teams, in accordance with FIVB President Dr. Ary S. Graca F°'s Africa Dream Project concept.
Gambia has also hosted a FIVB Level II Coaches Course for the first time, as well as a successful maiden beach volleyball championship.
