NEW YORK, NY (October 19, 2015) – Major League Soccer’s national television partners FS1 and ESPN have made their selections for which match to broadcast nationally on #DecisionDay, October 25 - the final day of the 2015 MLS Regular Season.
FS1 and FOX Deportes will feature Columbus Crew SC versus D.C. United from MAPFRE Stadium (5 p.m. ET), while ESPN and ESPN Deportes will showcase Sporting Kansas City versus LA Galaxy from Sporting Park (7 p.m. ET). Both broadcasts will also have constant look-ins to the other matches which kick off simultaneously during their window, with an eye on how the Audi 2015 MLS Cup Playoffs brackets look based on real-time scores. The remaining Western Conference matches will also be shown on ESPN3 (blackout restrictions may apply).
Heading into the final week of the regular season, the New York Red Bulls and FC Dallas have clinched the Eastern and Western Conference top seeds, respectively, meaning that #DecisionDay will decide which of the two teams will claim the MLS Supporters’ Shield as the team with the best overall record. Also, in addition to four more teams earning playoff berths, #DecisionDay will determine the final 10 playoff seeds.
FS1’s broadcast of Columbus vs. D.C. United features the current second and third place teams in the East. A win by either side would secure the second and final direct entry to the Eastern Conference Semifinal round, while the losing team would have a quick turn-around to play a Knockout Round match on either October 28 or 29. A tie favors United, which has one more point than Columbus, as the club would then finish second with a total of 52 points.
ESPN’s match could decide second place in the West, also. Currently in second, the LA Galaxy need a win on the road at Sporting KC to hold on to their automatic Western Conference Semifinal berth. However a loss or tie opens the door for Vancouver Whitecaps FC, Portland Timbers, or possibly even Seattle Sounders FC or Sporting KC to pass them.
The Red Bulls, Columbus, D.C., Toronto FC and the Montreal Impact have locked in five of the six Eastern Conference playoff berths, with the last spot to be claimed on #DecisionDay by either the New England Revolution or Orlando City SC.
In the West, Dallas, LA and Vancouver Whitecaps FC have secured three of the six berths. The final three spots are up for grabs, with the Portland Timbers, Seattle Sounders FC, Sporting KC and San Jose Earthquakes all alive heading into Week 34. In addition, TSN4/5 and RDS will broadcast the Montreal Impact vs. Toronto FC match at 5:00 p.m. ET and TSN2 will air the Vancouver Whitecaps FC vs. Houston Dynamo match at 7:00 p.m. in Canada.
