LUANDA (African Champions Cup for Women 2015) - Angolan side Primeiro D’Agosto won the African Champions Cup Women (ACCW) 2015 on Sunday following a 69-53 triumph over local and continental rivals InterClube de Luanda on the outskirts of the Angolan capital city of Luanda.
Mozambique international Leia Dongue lifted the Angolan champions with game-highs 28 points and 18 rebounds, Senegal’s Maimouma Diarra was terrific near the basket to go with 12 points and seven rebounds, and the D’Agosto ended InterClube’s attempt to win the tournament for the third consecutive time.
D'Agosto outplayed the opponent from start to finish.
As well as leading 30-16 at half-time, D’Agosto out-rebounded InterClube 40-23 to finish the tournament undefeated in eight games.
InterClube, on the other hand, concluded the event with a 6-2 mark.
This is D’Agosto’s first ACCW title since 2006.
In meantime, Dongue was named the tournament Most Valuable Player for the second year in a row.
The Mozambican ace headlined the All-Tournament team along with Maimouna Diarra, Ana Suzana Jaime, Italee Lucas and Sarah Chan.
In the Third-Place game, Mozambique champions Ferroviario de Maputo outscored Nigerian First Bank 71-54.
Early in the day Nigerian side Dolphins held on to a 59-52 win over INSS from the DR Congo to claim the fifth-place, while INJS from Cameroon beat RADI from the DR Congo 58-53.
