The Sierra Leone national women’s cricket team maintained their 100% unbeaten run to lift the maiden edition of the North West Africa Cricket Conference (NWACC) Women's T20 tournament crown in Banjul, The Gambia.
After securing successive victories over Mali and Ghana, the Sierra Leonean ladies were only left with the task of defeating the host nation, Gambia which they did on Tuesday by securing a nine wicket win.
Their achievement sparked a lot of positive reactions from Sierra Leonean both home and abroad and the first to congratulate the team was the President of the Sports Writers Association of Sierra Leone (SWASAL), Frank Cole who posted on WhatsApp: “ Bravo to our national female cricket team for their victory.”
Former national team cricketer, Serry Sumuthebelez posted on his Facebook page: “Sierra Leone has just won the first North West Africa female cricket competition, the sport that has by far brought more Laurels to Sierra Leone, well done ladies you all are now part of the winning team,(Salone titi nor dae take lass pa anything) proud to be part of this family.”
