Brazzaville, Congo, September 9, 2015- Hosts Congo Brazzaville and favourites Egypt booked their tickets for the semifinals of the volleyball competition at the Men's All Africa Games after both teams continued winning streaks against Mozambique and Nigeria respectively at the Henry Elende Hall in Brazzaville, Congo on Wednesday.
The two winners secured the top two positions in Pool A with 9 points each and they will meet face to face on Friday to determine their final ranking at the end of the preliminary round. Nigeria finish in the third position from a win-loss ratio of 2-2, six points ahead of both Botswana and Mozambique (both on 0-3).
Congo Brazzaville v Mozambique 3-0 (25-14, 25-10, 28-26)
Congo Brazzaville pulled off a straight-sets victory 3-0 (25-14, 25-10, 28-26) over Mozambique in 67 minutes in Pool A. The host team led the first and second sets before Mozambique played aggressively in the third to take an advantage. Congo, however, won the crucial points to win narrowly 28-26.
Congo improved their win-loss ratio to 3-0 with 9 points, while Mozambique dropped to 0-3. Abrahis Nkouka led the winners with 11 points followed by Exauce Ilouni on 10. Aldevino Nguvo led the losing team's scorers with 9 points.
Egypt v Nigeria 3-1 (25-21, 24-26, 25-21, 25-21)
Egypt beat Nigeria 3-1 (25-21, 24-26, 25-21, 25-21) in a thriller lasting 79 minutes. After the Egyptian team won the first set, Nigeria played their best in the competition to win the second set 26-24 and fought well to make it difficult for Egylt in the third and fourth sets.
Egypt improved to 3-0 with 9 points while Nigeria dropped to 2-2 with 6 points. Opposite Reda Haikal led the Egyptian scorers with 31 points - the competition's best performance to date - followed by Ahmed Meghawry with 10. Mathew Ejeh led the Nigerian team with 13 points followed by Seiyfa Dikiyai on 9.
